Kisses/Like Crazy

This post features the best two films I saw during the holiday break. Okay, that sounded corny. I don’t write film reviews for two reasons. One, I don’t consider myself a film expert; I only love watching films (see, I say films  not movies :-0) for the cinematography, the music, the dialogue, and the hot actors (no shit). Two, I really am not a film expert and I hold the belief that critics of any kind kill the thrill of experiencing art the way you want to.

Kisses (2008)

Kisses is about two Irish kids who run away from home at Christmas because of their unsatisfying home lives…That’s the gist. Judging from the title alone, I guess you already know what to expect from this movie. But I was a little, no, more than a bit surprised about the climactic k-i-s-s-i-n-g.

Like Crazy (2011)

Like Crazy is the (500) Days of Summer of 2011. Why? Because it’s an anti-chick flick (but that’s just me saying) and the ending [SPOILER!!!] is quite similar to The Graduate. The movie is about the nuisances of keeping a cross-cultural-slash-long-distance relationship.

Plus, you should hear Anna reciting these lines to Jacob:

I thought I understood it, that I could grasp it, but I didn’t, not really. Only the smudgeness of it; the pink-slippered, all-containered, semi-precious eagerness of it. I didn’t realize it would sometimes be more than whole, that the wholeness was a rather luxurious idea. Because it’s the halves that halve you in half. I didn’t know, don’t know, about the in-between bits; the gory bits of you, and the gory bits of me.

Watch.
